Jim Reisert: Travel | 2021 Costa Rica |
Carol and I visited Costa Rica in December 2021.
Carol flew into Juan Santamaria International Airport (San José). Jim flew into Liberia International Airport. We both flew out of Juan Santamaria International Airport, to Denver via Houston.
Carol traveled to Costa Rica a week earlier so she could volunteer at the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center. She got to work with sloths and now she wants one!
We spent the first week of the trip in Playa Flamingo. We rented Hacienda Paraiso, just a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean.
The boys went on an all-day deep sea fishing trip where they hooked three marlins – the first was far away from the boat before it broke free, the second was reeled all the way to the boat, and the third got within a yard/meter of the boat before it snapped the fishing line. The one that did make it to the boat was released. We also caught two Mahi-mahi which made for a tasty dinner that night.
One day we took a tour of Café Tío Leo. We learned about coffee, sugar cane and chocolate. They grow a very diverse collection of plants.
We spent several days at the end of the trip at Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort.
One morning we went on a walking tour of Carara National Park. We saw howler and spider monkeys and many birds.
