We honeymooned in Hawaii in late April/early May 1997. We stayed on Oahu for a couple of days at the Turtle Bay Hilton, then on Kauai at the Kauai Coconut Beach Resort for about five days, then a few days in Kailua-Kona at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel on the big island of Hawaii, and finally a couple of days at a bed-and-breakfast on the other side, in Hilo. We had the best food of our entire trip in Kailua-Kona. Two great meals were at the Palm Cafe and the Canoe House (*) at the Mauna Lani Resort. We took a helicopter tour of Kauai, and another over an active lava flow on Hawaii. We visited the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, the Kilauea Lighthouse, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and drove through Ka Lae, the southern most point in the United States.

(*) Comet Hale-Bopp was observed from the beach at the Mauna Lani just after we finished eating dinner. The comet was also present at our wedding. It was a unique experience to witness this astronomical event from two different geographic locations 5,000 miles apart!
