Our Cats

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." – Anatole France

"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods." – Christopher Hitchens, The Portable Atheist: Essential Readings for the Non-Believer

Toonces

Toonces is our oldest cat. He was adopted from PawSafe Animal Rescue in July, 1998. We think he was born in April, 1998. He's a very devoted pet, following us from room to room.

He is named after the driving cat on Saturday Night Live. He doesn't like the car, so it's going to be tough teaching him how to drive.

This is a picture of him when he was a little kitten.

Timmy

Timmy is our middle cat. We adopted him in June, 2001 from Kitty Angels. He's a real cuddle bug.
He was about 10 months old when we got him. He was trapped with a feral colony in Lawrence, MA. They neutered all the cats, notched their ears, and were going to release them all back into the wild. However, someone thought Timmy had potential to be a good pet - they were right, and we were lucky. We think he's named after the character Timmy from the TV cartoon South Park.
It took a while for his brother Toonces to adjust, but they seem to get along fine now. Toonces will sometimes clean Timmy.
Timmy loves to sit in the window sill - we think it reminds him of being out in the wild.

Feeding time at the zoo!

Tallulah

We adopted Tallulah from the Longmont Humane Society on June 6, 2015. She was a little over seven years old at the time. Her previous owner had passed away. She is the most talkative cat you've ever met, and she follows Jim around the house wherever he goes.
To say Tallulah is not a fan of her brothers is somewhat of an understatement. She's better when we're close by, but does not like it when she's on the floor and either boy approaches her. However, she loves to sit on the couch and sleep with us. We are hoping that with time, the hissing and paw fighting will stop.

Tessa

Our sweet Tessa went to kitty heaven on October 26, 2014. A week earlier, she began having daily seizures. She spent a week in ICU (cha-ching), but whereas the vets at VRCC could get the seizures somewhat under control, Tessa then developed respiratory problems. We didn't want to diminish her quality-of-life any more than it had been, so we made the difficult decision to let her go. She lived almost ten years longer than anyone thought she would! We were blessed and lucky to have her in our lives.

Tessa is the newest addition to the family. She arrived on Sunday, November 9, 2003. She was a feral kitten and only weighed about 2.5# (1 Kg) when she was taken in by Kitty Angels. She was about 8 months old.
At first, we were surprised to hear Timmy hiss and growl at her - we have never heard that from him before. As you can see, they have become fast friends!
Tessa finds the shortest route to wherever she wants to go. This may mean crossing through the stair railing and jumping down in order to save a few steps. But she's also content to sit or sleep.
